4-10-07, 852 pages, weighing in at under an ounce (15.1 grams)--ah the miracles of technology! I'll be delivering it tomorrow--well actually it's tomorrow already being 12:30 a.m.
Thank you all for jumping in and responding to blog postings. Please continue to do so. I fear I'll never catch up as I'm about 75 postings behind in just one week, but I'll try to answer as many questions as I can before I leave for France on the 16th.
Soon after I return we enter a whole new book phase of editing, photography and production. You'll be hearing all about it! Stay tuned.....

Rose,
I've been a fan of yours ever since "The Cake Bible" was first published and though I've enjoyed and used all your books it's been "The Bread Bible" that I've used the most (I use it for 95% of all the bread I bake - I don't buy bread).
I'm sending this comment because a while ago you asked for ideas for a new book. My suggestion is a slim volume with unique recipes for children to make - ones that look good, are fairly easy to make and will hopefully teach the child good nutrition.
My husband and I have just returned from a trip to visit our only grand-child. She told us before the trip that she wouldn't be bored now because Grammy and Grandad were coming to play with her!
We did some serious playing by making the Ricotta Bliss Bread (twice). I think we may have another baker in the bud.
I'm looking forward to your new book.
Hazel

there's never an easy answer to this question bc recipe development goes on for years. the cake bible took 10 years. the christmas cookie book only about 1 intense year not including pre-testing/research. the pie and pastry bible came out 10 years after the cake bible but there were 3 smaller food books in between. the bread bible 5 years later. and now the new cake book will be 5 years after the bread bible. this means working night and day including vacations so it's not a "real time" sort of answer! baking books are of neessity far more detailed than food books.

Out of interest. How long does the whole process take? From the time you put 'pen to paper' to the book being available in book stores for us fans to buy.

That is SO great that there will be a DVD accompanying the book. I have wished for this with recreational cookbooks so many times! It will feel even more like you are standing at my shoulder so I do it right the first time... don't get me wrong, I love the thorough descriptions and well-crafted prose of your previous books, but seeing it is so much better!

i'm sure the book will be available all over the world but perhaps not in other languages quite yet!
ebook version? i'm not sure how the publisher feels about that but i know what you mean. i want the book and the electronic version because it's easier to print out recipes and work from them.

If you can, try for an EBook version and both sell it online and package it with the printed version. I like paper, so I'll be picking it up that way, but an EBook would be really cool (portable RLB cake recipies!)
