A Simple Fun Way to Decorate Cakes

Mar 14, 2009 | From the kitchen of Rose

I have a small whimsical collection of tiny ceramic animals: two little dinosaurs, two little frogs, a moose, and a blue bird with outstretched wings i think of as the blue bird of happiness.

In this photo, i frosted the cake with chocolate whipped ganache, grated bitter sweet chocolate on top and set the little moose in the center.

Be sure to remove the non-edible decoration before serving!

nina, pls look at the errata page and you will see all the corrections. cross out the words rye flour in the text--the right amount is what's on the chart.

how about using chocolate 'moose'line buttercream instead!

That looks very scrumptious! It's funny you added the caution. lol
Thanks for the idea!

The chocolate savings work well with the moose because it makes it look likes he's trudging across the forest floor or a field....

reminds me of a birthday cake my mom made when i was about 10; it was a sheet cake, with little horses and fences and trees etc. from a toy horse barn set i had. just before the guests were to arrive for the party, she looked into the dining room and there was my 4-year-old brother galloping all the horses through the frosting.

many years later, at a party for my brother's engagement, my mom pulled one of the same horses out of her purse and invited me to have a go at that evening's cake...

Hi, Rose. I purchased two of your books the Cake and the Bread Bible. I wanted to make the Real Jewish Rye Bread and was dissapointed because on page 326 rye flour measure is missing from the flour mixture recepie. Below the measurements in #2 it says to whisk together the bread flour and rye flour. But how much of the rye flour???It is not given in the recipe. Please, respond.

Thank you

I love that little moose! You should name the cake "Moose au Chocolate."

How nice- I'm imagining all the many different themes this could work for!

What a neat idea Rose! Love the little moose...

I see the picture but the topic doesn't appear in the "hot out of the oven" section.

REPLY

I don't see it either.
Thanks!

Hmmm...I can't seem to see the cake image. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
