Post Book Production Phase One!
Aug 09, 2009 | From the kitchen of Rose
This was my first visit to my publisher, Wiley, in Hoboken, NJ since the book arrived.
Pam (my editor), her assistant, and Ava (production manager) and I had lunch at Zafra www.zafrakitchens.com a wonderful Cuban/Latino restaurant owned by my friend and fellow author Maricel Priscilla.

I adore Maricel's tamales and had to order the corn version as this is the height of the NJ corn season. My main course was my favorite--skirt steak with rice and chimichura type sauce. The steak had a fabulous beefy flavor.
Maricel's deep fried plantains are perfect with drinks and to nibble throughout the meal.
Afterwards we walked back to Wiley and I had the pleasure of signing publisher Natalie Chapman's copy of the book.
It was a 90˚F. day and the sun was shining for a change, with a lovely breeze off the Hudson River. We were all on Cloud Nine (or should I say Seventh Heaven?!

Dear Rose,
So glad your book is out. You look happy and summery and the bright food matches your mood. I am honored you chose my Zafra on your visit to your publisher. I am planning to give a copy of your book to my niece who studied pastry at Johnson and Wales and is now a cake maker in Miami (she found much inspiration in the Cake Bible.) Can't wait to see you, but this time come to my second restaurant Cucharamama across the street where we make three types of tamales--from Chile, Colombia, and my own creations, one topped with Peruvian-style duck and another with bacon marinated in a spicy and rich adobo sauce.
Felicidades!

You look so heavenly and young on this picture that I thought this was a posting from your earlier books! Needless to say is great to see you all dress less heavilly and enjoying latino food at best of summer.
When are you coming with a tamales recipe? More than 50 varieties in Peru! Humitas, tamales, juanes, dulces, maiz, choclo, polenta..... Etc etc!

Nice that you can relax now and enjoy celebrations along the way while waiting for the book to officially arrive...
The plaintains look delicious. I love them in any form.
