Happy Official Pub Date!!!

Sep 29, 2009 | From the kitchen of Rose

What an amazing moment—the book is finally here and it’s everything I wanted to be and more! Thanks to all of you who support me with your wonderful comments and valued appreciation.

Some of you may already know that Marie Wolf over at www.HeavenlyCakePlace.blogspot.com has been baking her way through my book and blogging about it – I’m so honored and flattered! Now, in celebration of the official publication date, she has some exciting news to share (click on the video below to find out)… Be sure to allow it to load completely before viewing so that you don’t get those annoying pauses I so dislike!

I can’t wait to see who signs up and to read your stories and see your rendition of my cakes!

Blissful Baking,
Rose

the general rule is that convection is recommended for pies and tarts. but for bread and cakes, non-convection is preferred.

yes, i like to shut off the fan when appropriate, and if it is an option in the oven.

Thank you all so much for your feedback and links.

Hector, it sounds like you're saying convection is fine for all, if not, most baking. The only possible issue being with layer cakes, correct? Do you use convection for layer cakes, or you shut off the fan when baking those? Thanks again!

REPLY

dear, it really depends how strong is the convection fan. you may chance getting slanted cake tops or over drying, specially true on layer cakes. but for bundt cakes, most cupcakes, silicone pans, in my experience, convection is fine fine fine.

most stove ovens in the usa aren't true convection, this means the heating element is traditionally on the bottom of the oven as any non-convection oven, in addition there is a fan on the back wall of the oven or on the side wall and usually this fan isn't that strong. a true convection oven has the heating element hidden behind the convection fan, and the fan is often strong enough to lift cake tops off!

Rose,

I'm seeking your advice on ovens. I'm about to purchase a new stove (within the next month or so). I'm looking at a convection oven. My mom has one but hers has the option to use convection or "regular" oven mode. The ones I've seen here, only offer convection mode all the time. Does that work for all baking (cookies, pies, cakes, roast turkey)? I would think that you wouldn't want hot air circulating by a fan when baking an Angel Food Cake or any other foam cake. Am I wrong? Would very much appreciate any insight you have to offer on this topic.

Thanks!

I dont have time to cook the entire book on schedule, but I did bake the almond cake for a wedding cake recently and it was a resounding success. I made a cherry buttercream and covered with marzipan. Thanks so much!!

I signed up for the bake along right away and was lucky enough to win a signed copy of the book, yay! I can't wait to start baking from it (I'll have to wait another week or two as I'm in the middle of a kitchen remodeling/redo project). I picked the Tres Leches Cake and since Marie already baked that one, I will be hosting it, yay!

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Rose, the publisher Wiley, and Marie. I'm so happy with my signed copy that I took a picture of it and posted it on my blog. In addition, I also posted a picture of the very first cake I made from The Cake Bible (~4 years ago). You can find it here: http://hanaaskitchen.blogspot.com/2009/10/heavenly-cake-baker-new-baking-group.html.

jenn i love the name--as an avid knitter i love the combination of knitting and baking. congratulations on your new blog!

I created a blog yesterday. I followed Patrincia's lead and post the announcement about the baking group - I think it's a perfect 1st post of the blog. Here's the address: http://www.knittybaker.blogspot.com/
I named it knittybaker because I've been knitting for years and loved it and now I love baking and hope to do that for many years to come :).

REPLY

thanks bernadette! it's really easy to set up the blog--marie has directions on her blog and it's free!

REPLY

I don't have a blog but that video was so cute Rose!

REPLY

patrincia--i love "butteryum"--perfecto! thanks!

rozanne--love your chaplin theory!

great bedtime reading--going to sleep early as i don't think i can take any more excitement and happiness in one day!

Congratulations Rose. Great video! Loved the music. I was thinking Charlie Chaplin too, so it's not an age thing. He was a master at what he did and so are you. That is my theory :)

REPLY

I followed Jana's lead and created a post on my blog about the new group. I know it will be a very successful baking group!

thank you silvia and rachel and hector--yes--it's rare that i get the opportunity to be silent and expressive in a different way.

REPLY

love the video, Rose looks happier than words can speak, and indeed there isn't speech on this!

REPLY

Rose, you beam happiness and look really pretty. The music is beautiful; you're right: for this video better Mozart than Bach. Mozart's music matches better your sunny face!

REPLY

Congratulations Rose. I love the video because you look so cute and happy, and I can't wait to see the book in person.

REPLY

Rose, you have to leave the computer to bake at least! And also to travel the world and report your adventures to your adoring fans :).

REPLY

this is going to be so fun--i'll never leave the computer now!

REPLY

Oh my gosh! This was so funny! I've read Marie's cake making blog since the beginning and it's great fun. The post where she swore like a pirate and had her husband fleeding the kitchen was priceless!

Count me in. I'm too intimidated to join bake alongs on other sites. I'm game for this. Marie says your instructions make anything possible.

Absolutely adorable video! And yes, very Dillon-esque ;)

I think I was successful in signing up (I hope, I hope). This is going to be so much fun, and a signed copy of the new book to boot - whoohoo!

REPLY

funny thing about the silent part--i was thinking charlie chaplin more than bob dylan which shows my age!

I love this video!!!
Congratulations

What a fun video Rose, I love the Mozart!

thank you jana--that is "beyond the call of duty" beautiful! and i know you're going to have a terrific time doing it.

thanks for doing such a great job of filming me for the video. the real reason for my smiles was seeing YOU smiling behind the camera. it was so easy to smile back. otherwise ii might have been too shy.

Rose! I'm so excited for the bake-through. I posted the announcement on my blog as well, and I can't wait to start baking.

i put in a request for mozart but left it up to publicists gypsy and jana to choose which. i think it is perfect.

i also love bach but didn't think it would work as well--less playful and joyful--would have worked for the cake bible--all that baroque technique.

but if i had to chose between being mozart or bach it would be bach hands down, especially after seeing amadeus. bach was happily married with many children and appreciated in his own time whereas poor mozart....on the other hand, having those notes, that music in one's brain and being perhaps is happiness enough.

thank you everyone for posting and joining!

That is just too much. I loved it. What a funny, delightful and clever video. The music was perfect for a "silent" movie.

Rose - thanks for filming and sharing the video. It's really cute. I just signed up at Marie's blog to join the bake-a-long. Look forward to try all the new recipes of the book. PS: I'm a new fan of yours, actually just found out about you this year and have been following the forum (which I love - everyone there is super nice!) Cheers - Jenn
