Kathleen, essentially yes but mostly bc the bottom crust is tighter and adheres best to the rest of the cake.

Dear Rose,
Do you recommend frosting the cakes layers bottom-side-up (rule #32) because you are assuming the top of the cake would have been sliced off to make it perfectly level (causing it to have a lot of crumbs on the top)?

Just read the article. Loved it. When you write, it is like listening to you speak...it is so personal. It is nice knowing that you had to start somewhere too. It's had to imagine you, The Joy of Cooking, and your first cake! But we were all 19 once.
