The Perfect Plastic Wrap Cutter
Mar 12, 2010 | From the kitchen of Rose
Little things can make a big difference. Here's one! My favorite plastic wraps, Stretch-Tite and Freeze-Tite have an inexpensive optional little device called a "slide cutter" that is easily attachable to the box and then "glides across the wrap in either direction resulting in a smooth, even cut ever time".
i can't tell you how many times a day (and night) I tear off plastic wrap and struggle to get an even piece that doesn't crinkle up in the effort to cut it free from the box. No more! This is a dream device. It is reusable and costs a mere $3.00. I was alerted to its existence by a blog comment and am most grateful. It's one of those how did i live without it things.
I also have the Stretch-Tite Wrap'n Snap 7500 which is a dispensor that, when closed, neatly cuts off the wrap, but it is not available for the freeze-tite.
When you go the the site, scroll down to the cutter and go to the "please select" button. Use the arrows to scroll up or down and chose either Stretch-Tite Slide Cutter or Freeze-Tite Slide Cutter.

My sister just sent me a new plastic wrap cutter that mounts on the kitchen drawer, it's called Wraptor Teeth. Something new, said she had seen it on some inventor show. I love it. You can use both hands to tear off the wrap. Just sits on the edge of the drawer. I use with my other wraps.

Oh...orange oil is really potent. If you are using it instead of Orange blossom water you only need a tiny tiny bit. You can always add more but once its in...you can't get it out! LOL

Thanks. Nothing too close to me regarding a good supplier of baking stuff but when I think ahead, I can order from the Internet. Obviously, I did not do that this time

If you add orange oil it will definitely add an orange flavor to the buttercream. It won't be exactly the same as orange blossom water but it will be orange. It's funny, because my local supermarkets aren't well stocked with baking supplies, but the one thing I CAN get right on the corner is orange blossom water. My favorite orange butter cream is the Mousseline buttercream with orange curd.

Like Nic, I got a slide cutter for free in my box of stretch-tite, purchased at Coscto. Now I think I will actually use it! (I have never put it on.) Sometimes they do exclusive packaging deals, so it's possible that's only at costco...

Zach, I am afraid to ask about the toilet paper dilemma, but I did pay a different look to my roll this morning while reading this!

The cutter is wonderful, I wouldn't know any better as this is the only brand my local Costco store carries, and with the cutter included. Many people miss the cutter because it is packed inside the roll and you need to find it and install it. It goes over the traditional blade blade teeth cutter and it will work for all rolls where the blade teeth is on the up edge of the box and the box lid flap can go behind.
IMO, stretch tire is airtight, and here is my practical test

I got mine for free inside the box of stretch-tite? It is a fantastic thing for sure because I would always get the occasional cut from the metal cutter on clumsy days.

Rose,
Does this cutter only work on Stretch-Tite plastic wrap boxes, or would it work for other brands?

I recently read a cook's illustrated review of plastic wraps. They said that while the stickiness of the stretch-tite is a good feature, that both stretch tite and especially freeze-tite let in a lot of moisture. Their top choice was Glad, which was not as sticky, but more impermeable.

Oh my god, my dream product. I hate struggling with plastic wrap. There are two camps when it comes to the cutters supplied on the box, did you know that? :) (kind of like the "over or under" toilet paper debate). Do you like the cutter on the lid or on the box? Whenever I buy plastic wrap and the cutter is on the box, it drives me nuts and I can never get it to tear off straight. I'm a "cutter on the lid" type of guy, but this product is even better.
