Memorial Day Brunch
Jun 01, 2010 | From the kitchen of Rose
These are my favorite blueberry buttermilk pancakes from The Cake Bible but with a new twist: I garnished them with fresh blueberries. I love the way it looks but also I love the burst of fresh blueberry flavor.

rachelino, the blueberries seem more intense this year---so far anyway. the strawberries are definitely better.
laura, ppl with exposed heating elements have reported inverting a sheet pan over them to hold the cast iron skillet so since your element is covered i should think it would be fine to place the skillet on top.

Hi Rose,
I am going to make your Ciabatta recipe and have a quick question for you: my newish (3.5 yrs old) gas oven has a heating element on the floor of the oven that is raised by about 1 inch high and is 13 inches square; it is covered with metal like the rest of the oven floor. Is it OK to place the cast iron skillet here? I could use the lowest rack instead, but that would mean a VERY tight fit with respect to the baking sheet placed on the next level above. It is so close that I'd have to very carefully pull the cast iron pan out, drop in the ice and then place it back in, which of course lets more heat out of the oven. There would be millimeters of space separating the cast iron pan and baking sheet.
Thoughts? If anyone else here could help, that would be great, too. Not sure how often Rose can check in.
Many thanks!

I have never tried your pancakes from TCB. Must do that! How does this year's crop of bluberries compare to last year's?
