Michael Batterberry, publisher of Food Arts Magazine, one of the most revered and beloved people in the food industry, has just died. I can hardly bear to do this posting but I want you all to know. The word most often associated with Michael was visionary. He was an inspiration to many including myself and the most loyal and supportive of friends. Much as I grieve for him, and sympathize with all my friends at the magazine, it is his darling wife Ariane who is most in my thoughts right now. It was at the Beard Awards in May where the Batterberrys were given the life-time achievement award. The most touching words from each of them were that they couldn't have done it without each other. The food world has suffered an inestimable loss.
