Greetings All,
I’m John—been lurking for a while, signed up a month ago, this is my first post to this board.

About me—semi-retired mechanical engineer. Jobs are REALLY, REALLY hard to find.
Fortunately I have a wife who takes good care of me.
Now, I have lots of time on my hands, and have been venturing into cooking, much of it is baking.
Not an expert, but I think I’m learning pretty well.

I look forward to mingling with the active posters on the board.
I get the impression there are many top-notch bakers out there.
If you folks don’t mind answering me some sincere questions, I’d appreciate it.

My username is Tunaoue; It’s a play on Tuna (I’m a fisherman) and Tanouye/Tanoue - my mother’s familiy name from Japan.
Mom was a Korean war bride when my father was in the Army back in 1951 to 1956.

I’m the result of a Japanese farmer’s daughter who excels in the tea ceremony, and a Rancher from Wyoming, yep - a cowboy.
Now I’m a retired engineer taking up cooking as a hobby.  What are we in for?

Welcome Tunaoue! My brother is fisherman, i find it interesting but i dont have time. Im going with him from time to time to relax and enjoy in beautiful nature.

I think we are in for a lot of fun John. Welcome Pardner! My husband fishes too. He mostly fishes for trout. He has tried his hand at salmon fishing; but, so far, I am still buying our salmon.

HI, I am so happy to have found this forum as I am launching a holiday dessert business.  I have lots of questions!  My question for today is about storage for a coconut cake with 7 minute frosting.  Is the best I can do simply a cake box since the icing is too fragile to wrap in plastic wrap?

Thanks - I’ll try that.  Also, since my client is freezing the cake I would imagine the 7 minute frosting would not work for freezing.  What’s a great freezable substitute?

This seems to be an old thread, but it also applies to me the most.. so here goes.. Hi, I am new to this forum and web site. I have been baking for, well, years and years. I have been concentrating on improving my cake decorating skills (will post latest wedding cake when I figure out how to do that). I thought I was a good baker, and I probably was. But last year I purchased Rose`s Cake Bible, its not a recipe book, its a culinary education! And I have improved about 200%. So, all of Rose`s books are making it into my library. Most recently I added Heavenly Cakes, and last night presented a Chocolate Oblivion with raspberry sauce and fresh raspberries and whipped cream to my church choir for one member’s birthday. They were all grateful for my finding Rose`s books!
I am looking forward to spending time with you all!
