You’ll never guess who I had lunch with, today! Only our dear Rose herself!!!! I can’t begin to tell you how thrilled and surprised I was to have a meeting with Rose in Devon, England and then sit next to her for lunch. Melinda( another blogger and fan of Rose) and I had arranged with Kate, of microwaved flour fame, to meet up in a pre-arranged place in Devon when in walks not only Kate but Rose as well! I still can’t believe it, but it’s true! What a lovely, sweet person she is, just like she appears to be on her videos. Pictures to follow, it is rather late here now, must get some sleep after all my excitement!
This is the moment when we met up at Dart’s Farm in Devon, Melinda and I were so surprised to see Rose, we had no idea that Kate and Rose had planned this meeting months ago and kept it SO secret from us! What a wonderful afternoon we had, chatting like old friends and swapping baking stories as though we met up like this every week! My daughter joined us as well and my husband was there taking some pictures, he said he’d never seen me look so pleased and surprised! This event has really made my year, I will never forget it.
By the way, as you might guess, I am the one with the white/grey hair, Melinda is the pretty one with dark hair and a fringe and Kate is the tall young lady standing next to me. The other lady next to me is no other than Rose Levy Berenbaum, I never thought I’d get to say that!!!!!
Good evening to you my friend. All I can mumble is I am very impressed with the events as you fully described…& I am happy for you. I am also happy for Miss Rose as she got the ROYAL pleasure of meeting your acquaintance. I am certain she will not forget this event either my friend. Jeanette you DUN GOOD.
Hector, you wondered if Kate had cake in the parcel? Actually, the large package she is holding are gifts for her children from the very generous Melinda, but you can just see some smaller packages in her hands, these are sample cakes that she and Rose had made showing up the differences in flours. There were three different mixes, one was made with cake flour, one mixed with clotted cream instead of butter and another mix which I honestly can’t remember the difference (!) but they were all slightly different in texture and taste but all very good! I was so pleased to be there sitting right next to Rose I had to keep pinching myself, I thought I was dreaming!!! LOL!
Hello Jeannette and all, We did have such a wonderful day. Jeannette and I were properly caught out and surprised to see Rose come in with Kate. My mouth dropped to the floor, I am sure.
It all went so quickly, darn it! The new cake book looks fantastic… as if it would be anything else! The cake samples were delicious. The sample Jeannette couldn’t remember was a recipe from the new cake book. It was a almond lemon flavour type cake. Very delicious. It goes very well with a cup of English tea!
There are few more pictures on my blog if anyone is interested. This was such a perfect surprise, I couldn’t have planned a better one.
I am still smiling too, Jeannette! Thank you Kate for sharing her with us. x
