Hello Jeannette and all, We did have such a wonderful day. Jeannette and I were properly caught out and surprised to see Rose come in with Kate. My mouth dropped to the floor, I am sure.
It all went so quickly, darn it! The new cake book looks fantastic… as if it would be anything else! The cake samples were delicious. The sample Jeannette couldn’t remember was a recipe from the new cake book. It was a almond lemon flavour type cake. Very delicious. It goes very well with a cup of English tea!
There are few more pictures on my blog if anyone is interested. This was such a perfect surprise, I couldn’t have planned a better one.
I am still smiling too, Jeannette! Thank you Kate for sharing her with us. x

Welcome Melinda!

I enjoyed reading about your visit with Rose, Kate, Jeannette and all.  I also enjoyed reading about the Pumpkin Patch.  You have a great heart.

I’ve always wanted to visit Scotland. Idea: retire NOW instead of writing another book (well after the publicity for this one) and visit all you wonderful bloggers all over the world!

I have to say that the miracle of my two weeks with kate and family was that we did each and everything thing we had planned and there were many.

The UK bread flour behaved differently back home in NY and Kate and i figured out it was the water (what else?) NY being soft and fluoridated and Devon being moderately hard and not. Kate jumped right on the internet to discover that fluoride impacts gluten formation so this weekend I’m going right to the underground spring in Hope to capture some harder unfluoridated water to see what will happen.

Happy Memorial Day weekend to those of you in the US. By the way, Kate and my visit to the beaches of Normandy was unforgettable.

Jeanette and Melinda, thank you for being such great sports (your adorable husbands as well). I wish we had your reactions to the surprise on video!) Hector, you should have been there taping it!!!

MISS ROSE LEVY BERANBAUM:
Good Morning to you. I am happy to meet you as well. I would like take this oportunity to mention to you, that if you fill you cup of clorinated water from your kitchen faucet & leave it out opened for in excess of say 3, hours or more that chemical will disapate into thin air. No need for any expense to buy special water. rolleyes

Good luck to you & enjoy the rest of the day.

Dear Rose, Thank you for your message and for giving me, and I know Melinda as well, such a wonderful afternoon.  As i said at the time it was the biggest surprise I’ve had for years, it really gave me a lift!  I’m happy to know you got home safely.  I have Heavenly Cakes on order, roll on September!

Hello Rose, I still can’t quite believe this happened to us! I just wanted you to know that I wanted to push Ian off his chair while he was talking to you about the iphone. But you seemed interested so I let be! I was being selfish and wanted to talk cake and bread!
Ian said you were such a nice lady. I said, that was no lady…she is the queen! Cheers, Melinda x

I’m so relieved we didn’t give you heart attacks, Melinda and Jeannette! Rose and I had such fun planning your surprise - and you both surely deserve such a treat after agreeing to travel halfway across the country on only my account (as you thought at the time)!

I haven’t yet written about the wonderful afternoon we spent together at Dart’s Farm, but the first two installments of the whole tale are on my blog: see Paris and Normandy grin

regarding letting chlorinated water sit: yes most type of chlorine (not all however) will dissipate but fluoride won’t!
