Tammy, I love your name idea, “Rose’s Heavenly Bakers”!  Sign me up, please!

.
Thanks Julie!

Since the book release is three or more months away, I’ve set up a google group to keep track of those interested. http://groups.google.com/group/roses-heavenly-bakers?hl=en  Please click on “Apply for group membership” on the right side.  We can use it to communicate through as the group grows.  We can also post links to pictures or blogs if we chose to do so.

I’m also working on creating a blog site (http://rosesheavenlybakers.blogspot.com/

(Both of these site are still in rough draft form. I’ll keep working on them)

What is the most traditional pie for 4th of July?  Are we doing anything from the Pie & Pastry Bbile?

I was just begining to think about that today- I’m hoping and hoping and hoping that fresh tart cherries will be available for this, they should be out soon, right?  I don’t think there’s a traditional choice here in the states, not like pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving.

I’m quite flexible, but my feeling is that any American-style pie would be fine, given the holiday.  That would include all the pies and a number of tarts, but probably not stuff like napoleans, brioche, etc.

That said, on your side of the pond it isn’t a holiday weekend, is it?  Should we say anything from the pie or tart chapters?

What do you think, Annie? Rozanne?  Others?

I guess any pie or tart will do.

As American as Apple Pie…. and apples are always available.  The Peanut Butter Mousse Tart is very American and it’s SOOOOO delicious.
But I’ve made them so many times… Choices, choices!

No, we are not on holiday (except me, of course!) but certainly will get into the spirit of it.  Jeannette wil be back by then so I may consult with her.

When I proposed “Pie for July” I mostly just thought it was fun because it rhymed.. wink

I’m thinking seasonal (whatever the season may be for you). It could be 4th of July themed or could be for any other holiday you happen to have in July—or any other special feeling, memory, you associate with July.

Yes, please start with a recipe in Rose’s “Pie and Pastry Bible.” I suppose we could expand it to include “Celebrations” and “Melting Pot” if they happen to have any pie or tart recipes.

I’m back, Annie!  I like your suggestion of American Apple Pie, sounds good to me, but then I am not American!  Perhaps it would be better for an American to select this one.  However, I do not have Rose’s Pastry Bible although I have made her Cream Cheese Pastry with great success.  As we are having a HEATWAVE here at the moment, I am not really up to baking at the moment, especially pastry as I always find it easier to work on a cool day, the dough I mean , not me!!  How is the weather up in Scotland, it is very humid here, unusual, eh?

Jeannette, Welcome back - it’s probably hotter here than in Cyprus!  I haven’t 100% decided what to make yet but I was looking at the Tarte Tatin in the P&PB;as I haven’t made one yet.  I do, however, have some of Rose’s Cream Cheese Pastry in the freezer so I wouldn’t need to make any fresh.  Even if you don’t have the Pie & Pastry Bible there are quite a few pie/tart recipes under the PBS series recipes on the blog that you could use.  The Banana Cream Pie sounds good.

I was wondering the same thing too Annie. I figured everyone is busy with summer vacations etc and wasn’t available to do it. Let’s wait and see who is interested and take it from there.

Rozanne and Annie, I’m up for a bakeoff in August.  What’s the theme?  I haven’t posted in a while because these last two months have been busy with vacation and baking for events and family.  But I have some breathing room now.

Looking forward to it!

Jess, the theme for Aug was supposed to be anything with seasonal fruit (from Rose’s recipes).

I’m game to do the August bake-off too.
