I am not being successful in making a black piping icing. It comes out either so o bitter or a dull grey colour. Have tried with both buttercream, IMBC and royal icing. Darken them first with cocoa then add the black colour. I have SugarFlair Black Extra and the Wilton black.
Would appreciate and help please.

I use oil based black candy color by chefmaster (http://www.countrykitchensa.com/catalog/product.aspx?T=2&ShopId=39&CatId=535&SubCatId=1422&productId=618335).  You can definitely taste it, but it does incorporate nicely and give a true black color, at least in my experience with mousseline (IMBC).

I just buy black if i need it. I only used it once for Elmo’s eyes and nose, and it was so much easier not making it lol.
