Ok this is the frist time I tried to sculpt a cake… (it is for a 21st. b-day cake)  I didn’t have much trouble with the bottom of the bottle as it was basiclly square with the corners chopped off…. The neck of the bottle was another story…. I used those little sponge cakes that you use for strawberry shortcake… They were the size I needed and shape… The first problem was when I out the fondant over it they were so spongey they sunk down with the weight so the neck was short and stubby… so I took two more and put them together and covered them with the black fondant and made the top… It turned out ok but it was not as stable as I would have liked… Next time I am gonna try like I see on tv and use rice krispie treats… don’t know if that would be easier or not…. the cake was about 18” tall when I finished and very heavy…. think I should have started with a smaller size cake pan…. Oh well I am learning as I go….  let me know what you think!  Thanks and have a wonderful day!

Gayle

To be honest I thought it WAS a bottle of Jack Daniels!!!  I think you’ve done a very good job, trouble is we are all a little too self critical, but perhaps that’s a good thing if we want to improve.  rolleyes

That is great!!
It’s so good that it reminds me of one of my buddy’s cakes.  (a true cake sculptress!!) Gayle you have probably seen her online - Debbie Goard of Debbie Does Cakes?
Anyway, her photo stream is here - http://www.flickr.com/photos/debbiedoescakesnet/
and wow I didn’t know this, but she actually made a Jack Daniels bottle cake too, and it was also for a 21st birthday!
