I was lucky enough to meet up with AnnieMacD this last weekend, and what a treat that was!  My husband and I were up in Scotland and Annie very kindly suggested we visit her up in the Highlands and treated us to the best of welcomes!  We feel as though we have known her for ever, and if ever Annie gives you advice on baking, take it!  She knows what she is talking about I assure you.  We had pizzas baked in Annie’s brick oven which were as good as those we have had in Naples, lovely, lovely,lovely!!!  Can’t wait to make that long journey again, we never stopped talking, Rose’s ears must have been burning!!!  LOL! 

I think your post was in the exact right section of the forum, Jeannette. An Event and a Happening, for sure!!!

What a happy story.  The very first thing that popped into my mind when you mentioned that you went to visit Annie was her pizza!  So glad you were able to sample it, and that it was as wonderful as you say it was. 

What a great time we had - Jeannette and her husband intended to come for one night, I persuaded them to plan for two nights and then they stayed for three!  We had a blast and Jeannette is just as sweet and kind as she comes across on the blog.  And J’s husband was SO patient with us while we talked and baked and talked and baked….  What a great guy.  I feel blessed to have met such wonderful people and made such good friends.

Baking is such a great way for people to meet as there is such a lot to talk about - so thanks to Rose and all the Forum members too for creating this community.  I’ll write more later about out adventures.

Fabulous!  I can attest to the feeling of meeting someone you’ve only known by written correspondence—it’s a wonderful feeling.  So glad the two of you bloggers could meet.

Glad to hear of you two meeting!  Jeanette, you’ve met two bloggers so far, now you’ll have to come stateside and rack up a few more…

I can only imagine how wonderful Annie’s food must be, every time I see something on the forums, I’m filled with admiration.  One of my most frequent daydreams while on Rose’s site is how wonderful it would be to have everyone together for a potluck!

My brother and his wife are going to Hawaii for two weeks for their wedding anniversary. They promised to bring back macadamia nut oil for me.

On Jeannette’s visit, this is what we baked:

Blueberry Muffins (Bread Bible)
Banana Cake with sour cream ganache (Cake Bible)
Perfect Peach Galette with Creme Anglaise
Sourdough Pizza
Sourdough Pitas made with the left-over pizza dough (we made these into sandwiches)
I had already made Struan Bread and a multi-seed bread (both sourdough)

Of course we couldn’t eat it all so we gave the banana cake to Jeannette’s sister-in-law.  We took a day trip to vist the local Scotch whisky distillery (Talisker on the Isle of Skye, for those interested) and we ate our sandwiches and a muffin sitting in front of the distillery by the waters edge with the whisky fumes wafting in the breeze.  J’s husband made flasks of Illy coffee just to make sure we were happy - he had had 3 sample tots of whisky so he was happy anyway!  We then went on to visit Dunvegan Castle (seat of the Clan MacLeod) before having dinner at the local Bistro (I know, I know, but it’s actually pretty good!).  As they say in Scotland, “Haste ye back”, Jeannette & hubby!
