here is part of my October bake off, with the Burnt Orange Silk Meringue Buttercream.  Sorry, the picture will be on youtube in the future, and this picture is just what we ate after a grueling 3 hour of making caramel, creme anglaise, italian meringue, and orange juice concentrate.  Thanks goodness, for orange zest, i used Boyajian oil instead!  as i have it on my facebook:  “my second youtube casting call and this team decided to be part of the project, great.  i was so worry to have chased them away or black out their baking spirit, because we worked on one of the most complicated mousseline buttercream variations:  4 levels up of complication with caramel, creme anglaise, orange concentrate, and orange oil!  I promised next time, we will work on the plain mousseline, and also on plain creme anglaise which is so versatile for other desserts.  after the 3 hours of work, we retreated ourselves with slices of Genoise Rose, Designer Chocolate Baby Grands, and Grand Marnier Wedding Cake.  well deserved, do you agree?”

Beautiful family + cakes, Hector! You beat me to it, and you beat all of us I guess by making three! My Genoise “Orange” is done, I’m just waiting for the dinner guests to arrive to plate it…

Should we start a new “October Bake-off” thread under show and tell?

My head is spinning just trying to read through this thread.  Can someone please explain what the “O” theme is?

Let’s see, for the “O” theme, that would include anything made with pumpkin or orange, or anything colored orange, or any O-shaped cake (bundt/ring/angel/chiffon).

And the only reason I suggested “Mostly Flourless” for November is that we could say it included pies as well as cheesecakes and flourless tortes (from RHC or any of Rose’s books).  In short, much that’s traditional for Thanksgiving without actually naming Thanksgiving as our theme, as not everyone celebrates that.

Here you go, Patricia….the O theme for October and the suggestion for November as well.

Silke, go ahead and start the October thread in “Show and Tell,” if you’re ready. Looking forward to seeing your genoise!

Thanks you Carol.  So does the October theme include selections from any of Rose’s books, or just the new one?

I second Annie. Haven’t been here for a few days and look what I’ve been missing rolleyes. Although it’s been decided that it’ll be O - I am also game for O theme for October and Thanksgiving inspired theme for November (got my eye on the pumpkin cheesecakes from RHC). For October, I am tempted to try the Orange Peel Roses, smile.

Does this qualify as O shaped?  cheese It’s the Chocolate Butter Cupcakes from RHC with Chocolate Egg White BC. It was very good - very chocolatey. I’m trying my hands at piping BC. I’ve never done this before so it’s not very consistent but I’m happy with the results. I thought they looked cute smile.
