I haven’t read it cover to cover yet, but does Rose give the finished heights of the cakes in the book?

Only for a few of the cakes, and not in a specific call-out - usually in a comment.  I, too, was looking for that.  It’s one of the things I love about The Cake Bible, because it’s one of the indicators of whether the cake is successful.

Hi Barbara ~ med school’s keeping me very busy.  Fortunately schoolwork hasn’t really stopped me from baking.  Our curriculum is designed around small-groups (every few weeks we change groups), so my group members have been recipients of my baking.  Cake does wonders to group dynamics.

Hi Patrincia ~ I’ve been baking a few classics from the Cake Bible.  Just got my copy of Heavenly Cakes.  What a wonderful cookbook!  We moved to a new place, so I’ve been having growing pains with my new oven (a *very small* European brand oven that can only bake one cake layer at a time).  Once I’ve become more familiar with the new oven, I’ll probably slowly make my way through Heavenly Cakes.  By the way, your blog is gorgeous!

Hello Julius, what a nice surprise to see you here this morning!  Glad you are keeping up with the baking, I’ve looked at your blog a few times and found it interesting but realized you have been to busy to keep it up.  Do let us know what you make from the new book, I’ve made the English Gingerbread (very good) and the cover cake, the glaze is fantastic!  Lots more to do but what next?  Decisions, decisions!
