What size spatula do you recommend for cake icing?

Any other good tips on icing equipment?

Oh my goodness, yes.  Get a turntable, heavy duty if you can afford it.  I use a large offset spatula, a small offset spatula, and a bench scraper to ice my cakes.  Honestly, I think a turntable is the most important factor - you can decorate a cake with a piece of cardboard if you have a good turntable.

Turntable it is! Unfortunately we don’t have a specialist baking store in my town. I will have to search for one.

You can find ball bearing housing thingies at a hardware store to make your own turntable (attach it to a piece of plywood and voila!).  Lazy Susan turntables and spice cabinet turntables are often available at the grocery store.  Check your local craft store as well - they often have cake supply items in stock.  And if all else fails, ask a local bakery if you can purchase one through them.

Happy Baking!
