Hi Patrincia…I don’t have a huge/small kitchen, but it’s definitely low on drawer space. I use one drawer for utensils, and the other for baking spatulas, whisks, etc. That way if hubby’s making, say curry, my baking spatula doesn’t get used Other than that, it’s lots of stacking pans within pans, measuring cups within cups, and so on.
Yes I know it’s ridiculous in size, but just think about how far she has to walk when she’s prepping! And how much she has to clean!
But I love the idea with the flour drawers. Easy to check how much is left, easy to get to. Right now my flour is in a godawful place, I have to open two cabinet doors, swing the spice racks out of the way, and then get to the flour. Not good.
I think it depends on where you live. If you live in hot, humid areas I’d agree. Aside from the odd spider we have no critters inside the house. Half my flour is in the bags it came in, with no problem. And I go through so much flour that it just never has the opportunity to go bad
The drawers do not excite me either. What a mess! I can’t imagine getting flour in or out without a cloud of dust settling everywhere. I don’t think it would be possible to keep flour fresh for more than 24 hours in a drawer.
I have always dreamt of something like the old Hoosier cabinets with flour and sugar dispensed from above. Something like the bulk food bins in grocery stores sized for the home kitchen. I really need to work on this idea someday.
Hector, Don’t know what’s wrong with your links today, that one doesn’t work, either. And yes, my tools are all on hooks as well. I didn’t think that was anything special… I have one drawer with tools, but it’s got lots of dividers in it and all the tools have their own little pocket. Ok, 3 cooking spoons are in the same divider, but everything has its own space. My flours last 2 weeks at most, so they don’t get any special treatment.
Perhaps I should clarify my last statement: While I think it’s super-practical to have the tools on hooks it gives the kitchen a distinctly not-very-orderly look. I wish I had enough drawers to put them in so they don’t end up in a big mess….
I agree silk… I like hooks, but I like them hidden. Btw, I like PW’s new kitchen better then the original. You know, the one in the newly remodeled guest house. I could die a happy woman baking in there… and that pantry - oy!
Soooo…. I had to come back to this one now that I actually have the new kitchen. You’ll laugh - I ended up hanging most my cooking tools because my drawers are too far from my stove… But it’s very practical, and I hung them from the ceiling rather than on the side of the cabinet. And since I managed to get everything off the countertops into my storage I think a little non-orderly is ok The good thing is that I can also hang salumi and prosciutto off the hooks, and the cats can’t get to it!
And I got flour drawers (which, perplexingly most of you seemed to hate), though a bit different from the Pioneer Woman’s. They are really just custom made space-saving boxes that are in their little boxes in the drawer (I’m an expert in building anything from acrylic now…). They all have lids, they can come out, and they are just the right size, the big ones in the front hold a standard flour bag, and the smaller ones are half that size. I know, everybody has different opinions, but for me they are great, making bread dough is now cut down from 5 minutes to two minutes as I don’t have to crawl into my cupboard anymore to find all the jars with different flours and seeds and nuts. I just pull open the drawer and scoop out what I need.

One of my good friends just got an antique baker’s piece of furniture with flour drawers that she will use in her new home as a kitchen island. They’re going to be awesome. I’m going to show her your acrylic liners, she’ll love them.
