I’m planning a few desserts for a function next week, and wondered if we had finalized topics.
January- should we do something compatible with resolutions? I was thinking maybe Baby Cakes (small portions, Rose’s philosophy), or, we could expand it to include any of Rose’s recipes that reflects your own resolutions (bread, small portions, whole wheat, etc.).
I freeze them whole, Julie. You can then make marmalade with them or use the juice for curd. The zest is too bitter for the curd so Rose says to use regular orange zest. I think I’ve already said that the True Orange Genoise is one of my all-time favourite cakes. I’m going to stock up on the Seville oranges so that I can make it throughtout the year.
I’m a bit curious about the suggestion of citrus in February - what’s the occasion? I’m happy to do anything, but chocolate is what comes to mind when I think of February.
Just that winter is when so many citrus come into season- seville oranges, meyer lemons, etc. I totally hear you on the chocolate for Valentine’s, I’d be happy to do citrus this month and chocolate next, would everyone like to do that instead? We could also do citrus in March, though that is getting late for sevilles.
Yes, of course! Just bake something that fits with the theme for the month (as long as it’s a Rose recipe) and post when you are ready. If you’re the first to post that month, start a new topic under Show & Tell, otherwise, just add on to the existing Bake Off Show & Tell post.
Ooops, sorry, Jeanette! Why don’t we stick with the “resolutions” theme for January, that is, small portions (baby cakes, etc.) or any Rose recipe that reflects your own resolutions (bread, whole wheat).
For February, would you all like to:
A) keep citrus in Feb or
B) switch to chocolate (for Valentine’s) and do citrus in March?

Well I am new but would like to participate and would prefer chocolate for February. But can also do citrus
Well, I think citrus has to be January/February - I’m pretty sure Seville oranges are not available after mid-Feb. Julie, why don’t you just make a decision and we’ll go along with it? It’s too difficult being democratic with so many people chiming in!
