I apologize ahead of time for this post, as it is very juvenile and nasty compared to the nature of this site and the work that results from it, but in the same, I had to share.

I was asked by a local pest control company to make a bug cake for an upcoming Home and Garden Fair in Clovis, NM. I was happy to oblige, and used Rose’s Chocolate Butter Cake Base recipe in the back of TCB. It was a carved cake, so I had to freeze it for about an hour so it would tolerate the knife.

It didn’t turn out exactly as I envisioned but close enough, and people loved it! Or hated it, lol, because after all it does look like an icky bug. Funny story, at the show one person whacked it with a yard stick thinking it wasn’t a cake! Everyone who knew it was a cake gasped, luckily it only suffered a tiny dent in it’s head. The people that won this at the end of the event loved it, and raved about it’s moisture content, rich chocolate fudgey flavor and fluffiness. It was the same cake batter that got me the terrible review with the mario cake. GO figure! Anyhow, here it is! We put cake crumbs all around it’s feet so it looked like it was trudging through the muck. Niiice. Eww.

I had already checked this cake out on your blog. It is incredible!I can even see the little hairs on the legs! I think I would have to close my eyes, though, before I took a bite. LOL!

P.S. No apologies needed. We are a very open-minded group here, open to all kinds of artistic expression in the world of cakes and baking. Did you see Hector’s canoe cake?

Jessie - I checked out your blog a couple days ago and saw this cake. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I think you did a great job. It does look like a real cockroach.

Absolutely disgusting and gross smile You did an awesome job! How often do you get the opportunity to use the words “disgusting, gross and awesome” to describe the same cake??????

Great job, Jessie, you’ve made a revolting cake! LOL

Never thought I’d be writing that here…

Glad they liked the taste, perhaps the other customer was just exepcting a different texture than the fluffy butter cake ideal.
