OK…so I didn’t actually BAKE…more like fried…but here’s the story. It was Friday night, it was raining in NY and I was low on eggs. I had a cake to bake, curd to make…and breakfast on Saturday morning. I was trying to come up with something to make for breakfast that wouldn’t require eggs…because I didn’t want to go out in the rain (Yes the store is 1 block away…but I was warm and dry…and alas…lazy). My other half said: “do doughnuts have eggs in them?” Doughnuts! I have always wanted to make doughnuts…and yes, there is egg in them…but the challenge was worth the trip to the store in the rain.
They take about three hours to make, if you include the rising time…but they were delicious! (The two of us ate a dozen of them in one day).
The recipe had a glaze for the doughnuts…that tasted horrible…so I just rolled them in cinnamon and sugar (The picture looks like there is a ton of sugar on them…but actually only a tiny bit stuck…so they weren’t horribly sweet. I will defintely make them again.
