Hello everyone -

I’ve been reading Rose’s blog for quite a while now - but only now discovered this forum. How on earth did I miss it?

Anyway, I’m thrilled I now discovered this - especially since I’m hoping to create a nice birthday cake soon. Need to decide which of Rose’s recipes I’ll bake.

I’m in the Boston area, live by the ocean with my three (yes three!) dogs, and love to bake (one is an expert thief, so I have to keep all my creations beyond her reach - not always the easiest thing in my small kitchen). I discovered that the fact my interests cover both cooking and baking - well, apparently that’s kind of rare. I do prefer baking, though - and I have the hips to prove it, lol. Throughout the years I’ve become better w/my bread & pizza baking - now I’m hoping to improve my cakes in the same way.

Edit: I meant to put this under the “Welcome to the Forum” message - arrgh!! - I’ll figure this out eventually…

Welcome Lynne! We’re looking forward to see your creations! And of the remainders of what your dogs ate…

I like to both bake and cook, but you’re probably right, there is a reason there are regular chefs and pastry chefs! Is it perhaps because it takes a lot of accuracy to bake, whereas cooking leaves more room for improvisation?

Welcome to you Lynne!

What a lovely intro, I’ve seen you around a couple of times now, you are going to be a great addition to our little family =) I am newer here too, but can attest to the fact that this group’s spirit collectively is so warm, so welcoming, you will feel like you’ve known them all your life in no time flat.

Your family sounds like a fun one, I loved your description of the expert thief. It reminded me of a time when my Mother and I were making a special 3 tiered cake for my little brother’s 5th birthday, monster truck themed. About one hour before the guests were scheduled to arrive, and despite our best planning, her thief of a mutt (a cute little yellow lab) jumped the barriers and ate half of the top tier!!! I had to *gulp* cut off half of what was left and make it into a huge monster truck topped grassy hill to disguise the destruction! Nobody could tell anything had gone wrong, if you can believe it!

It must be nice living on the ocean! New England is lovely. I hope it is absolutely stunning there for you this week, and your pooch behaves himself tongue rolleye It was nice “meeting” you! Welcome welcome!

Speaking of master thieves… I wanted to make chicken liver pate, but had to run to the store to get cream cheese, so I left the browned chicken liver and with the port reduction on the counter - covered. This is what I came back to:

Welcome Welcome Welcome!  I am also partial to baking (but I cook quite a bit as well).  There is something magical about baking.  My obsessive personality fits so well with the precision required for baking.  I hate things that are approximate.  I could break out in a cold sweat when a recipe says:  “Salt and Pepper to taste”  How much Salt?  How much Pepper?  AHHHHHH!  I much prefer to bake.

Can’t wait to hear about all your projects.  Keep posting!
