I take it the new one is the one on the left? They both look beauties, you must be a very proud mum! I’m still making do with a 1973 Kenwood, can you believe that!!! But it still works well, and I’m led to believe the older appliances last longer then those bought nowadays so I’ll keep it till it gives up the ghost! However I do hanker for something smarter looking. Your kitchen worktop looks exactly like mine, lovely granite, same colour. Enjoy your new baby!
Congratulations! I kept my 5 quart when I got my 6 quart too - the 5 quart is great for making smaller recipes. I have granite as well, but not your color.
Thanks for letting me share guys - you’re all the best!
Yes, the mixer on the left is the new one (I just couldn’t resist the shiney finish). I purchased it as a refurbished model on the shopkitchenaid.com website, for a great price (thanks Hector).
The mixer on the right is 12 years old and still going strong (my mother’s KA is over 20 years old and still going strong, althought she doesn’t use hers as much as I use mine). I can’t wait to see how well the larger bowl handles a big batch of Mousseline. And Matthew and Hector (oh, and Rose of course) have inspired me to step into the bread baking world, so I’ll eventually do that after I page through The Bread Bible a few more times.
Jeanette - I bet your 1973 Kenwood is a real beauty!!! You know the saying, “they just don’t make them like they used to”.
You counter looks like mine--I have about the same number of stainless canisters, and I have one devoted to spatulas too.
What you can’t see - a canister for all my whisks, a canister for all my large ss utensils, a canister for all my small ss utencils, etc. I have a friend who says walking into my kitchen is like walking into a kitchen supply store (I need help don’t I?).
I try not to store my tools in open canisters as they get dusty, and believe me I do use them often. Unfortunately? I don’t live in an enclosed climate controlled environment where dust would be minimal!
Patrincia, the largest batch of Mousseline Buttercream I have accomplished on the 6, is with 1688 grams of butter (16.4 cups of Mousseline). Less messy is with 1575 grams of butter (15.3 cups).

I kind of like the look of the utensils on display, and they are super easy to grab, but I do prefer an unclutter space and would rather keep them all in drawers (if I had enough drawers to them in that is).

Thanks Hector - is the with or without the use of the pour shield?
beautiful, beautiful beautiful! I’m not even 30 yet, and I’ve had 4 of these mixers! and yet, i still get as excited as a kid in a candy shop when I see the kitchenaid mixer displays in stores. However, my NEXT mixer will be the hobart 12 quart model...eek!
