I have been fairly absent (at least quiet) for a while. But I have an update. I was laid off from my job of 9 years in July 2009. Exactly one year and two weeks later, I secured a 6 month job that is likely to continue!!! But the primary reason for my absence is that my A/C broke and we have been experiencing a heat wave!! I had a cake with buttercream to make earlier this summer and had to tote supplies and mixers to my mother’s house to make the buttercream!!! Since I have not been working, I have not repaired the A/C. Since it is cooler tonight, I am going to try the pound cake from TCB (instead of my usual recipe). I may even try some chocolate buttercream or frosting…. (craving chocolate).
Anyway, I am enjoying my new position but it involves 2.5 hours of commuting per day….so I expect I will be baking less…. or figuring out how to manage my time and prep to get it done faster.
Congratulations! I hope you enjoy your new position and that everything goes well. I was wondering what happened to you. Glad to see you back!
Don’t worry, no matter how busy us dedicated bakers get, we always find time to bake something.
CRenee, congratulations on your new job! I know the feeling—I was laid off from my job after 12 years there, in March 2009. I’ve been enjoying the extra time to spend with my girls and also bake!, but all good things must come to an end…so we shall see when. Balancing is always hard, so I wish you the best of luck with the job, the commute, and hopefully your continued baking and visiting the forum!!
Thank you, everyone for the well wishes… and Yes, Julie that is an excellent idea.
So far, I am enjoying the commute. Washington, DC has some of the greatest architecture and I get to see more of it and drive to an area with the most fab older homes.
My year off was great and for the good. My 30 year old son had a heart attack and I was able to be with him.
All things work together for good for those who love the Lord.

CRenee, my sympathies are with you. I’m so glad you were able to be with him during his convalescence, and I hope he recovers well, quickly and fully. I’m very sorry to hear he is having trouble so young, but I hope his youth will pull him through strongly and that his future will be physically easier on him than his recent past. Sincere best wishes to you both.

Thank you Anne, he is actually doing well now. He just had trouble with medicine. It was shocking, however, since he is not obese. He is back at work. I am glad I was able to be with him.
Congratulations on the new job, CRenee! I’m glad to hear things are working out for you and that you’re able to enjoy your commute to work. I’m also happy to hear everything has worked out for your son, too. Best wishes to you.
