Well, Thank you all for your words of wisdom and encouragement! I delivered the cake on Saturday and the client seemed happy! Here a Picture…..AS you can see it turns out I had more trouble with the buttercream than with the fondant! 

GREAT WORK BK! Glad to hear it went well and the recipient was pleased! I’m sure this will have just piqued your interest and now you will be off and running - doing lots more fun and delightful cakes with Gum Paste/Fondant decorations!  Start saving up for your airbrush - if you get into it bigtime you will really want one! PS: next time do a thin crumb coat of the buttercream, let it set (refrigerate if necessary) and then put on a second layer to finish it! If the cake is a bit dry, a coating of warmed, melted jelly or seived jam, brushed on a cake also helps keep the crumbling to a minimum.

Kuchenbaaker, your creations are beautiful! And you are absolutely right….I am looking for an excuse to give it another try! I will have to try the Jam coat…..I had never heard of that before! I will certainly use much more buttercream next time too!
