Darkening Rose’s Fondant

I’m having problems darkening Rose’s fondant recipe.  I’ve used both powdered and liquid colors and in both cases, the fondant becomes the wrong consistancy.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

I made it for the first time a couple of weeks ago and I used gel colouring to make 3 different shades of pink for a cake for my grand-daughter.  It turned out quite well, the fondant and the decoration could have been better but the colours were very good.
