Hi friends!  Thought I would pass a long the cake I did this weekend for my friend’s birthday.  It is Rose’s chocolate cake with oreo filling, covered in vanilla fondant.  It is brushed embroidery.

Thanks!  My friend was not expecting anything, so it was a surprise from her husband and I.  Very fun.

I learned it from Peggy Porschen’s book Beautiful Cakes and Toba Garrett’s The Well-Decorated Cake.  It is done with royal icing on fondant.  I did not trace it exactly like Toba suggests, and could not find the patchwork cutters Peggy suggests, so I just practiced on wax paper and then freehanded it.  It has to be one of the most enjoyable decorating techniques I’ve learned thus far.  It didn’t seem to take as long as I thought it would either.

Thanks again for your kind words!

Thanks, PastryPrince.  You remembered me!  (asking you about your techniques)  smile  It is coming along.

BTW, I like what you did with your web site, and congratulations on your upcoming work in Bride’s and others.  That’s terrific!
