I had a lady ask me to do a cake for her son’s 18th year old birthday.  She wanted a king’s crown.

It all went well except for the fact that I didn’t plan enough time for the gum paste to dry. I did a make-shift quick dry by putting it in a warming drawer for a bit but I’m still searching for a better way.  Maybe I just need to have patience.

Wow, that cakes looks magnificent! Bravo.

What a beautiful cake Jane.  I’m sure the birthday guy was just thrilled with it.  Just love the color of the crown.  What did you use to paint it?

It cake is gorgeous!  There must have been a lot of oohs and aahs at the birthday party.

Thanks!! Yeah, the lady was really excited about it. It was really cute.

Liza- I just used the Wilton food coloring that you get in those little pots. I watered it down a little and then brushed it on.  It probably didn’t taste that great but I told the lady who I made it for that they might want to take off the fondant part when they ate the cake- there was plenty of icing underneath.  Sometimes you have to sacrifice taste for looks, right?
