I made the Golden Dream Cake with the White Chocolate Vanilla Bean Buttercream for my mother’s 85th birthday this past weekend. My mother thought it was the most delicious cake she had ever tasted, (which was the reason for choosing this recipe), and many of the other party guests agreed! The cake is moist, the buttercream silky and the combination of flavours, (almond, lemon, white chocolate and vanilla), sublime. Thank you, Rose, for the recipe and all the forum members for your help and inspiration.
I am so glad it turned out! I absolutely love the decor—elegant and stylish. I have yet to bake this cake (I’m a chocolate gal at heart) but with all of the positive reviews, I’m thinking it may have to go on my to bake list. Congrats to you (on the gorgeous cake) and to your mother on her 85th birthday!
On an aside, were there any discernble differences between 6” and 9” cakes?
WOW. Your piping is so beautifully perfect. That is one FANTASTIC cake. I am glad you and your family enjoyed it. I am chocolate person also, but when I dream of cake: I think of this one.
Your cake is stunning. It’s so nice that you made your mom’s birthday so special. If your mom is like my 85 year old mother in law, she will be telling all her friends about your cake, showing everyone pictures of it and beaming with pride. That’s so very nice !
That is gorgeous, timeless and elegant and most of all, one of Rose’s recipes so it is deliciously decadent too. Amazing piping, I wish I could pipe roses like that! I can make roses by hand with modeling chocolate until the cows come home, but ask me to pipe a rose and I run away screaming! I wish we all could taste it too! Thanks for sharing this beauty!
You’re so nice to make your mother this cake, I’ll be she was thrilled. Happy Birthday to her!
You do have perfect piping skills, those roses look great! And now I want to go bake one of these, I remember how wonderful it tastes, one of my all-time favorites.
Hi, I have to try the Golden Dream Cake. Your piping is beautiful. Did you start the roses on the bottom and work your way around and up? Thanks.
Kathy, you really should try it - it seemed to have almost universal appeal as both chocolate cake and vanilla cake lovers enjoyed it! Thank you for the comment on the piping. This was the first time I tried an all-over design so I may have done it backwards , but I actually started with the top of the cake, then the top row around the side of the cake, then worked my way down, filling in all of the gaps at the end.
I can not for the life of me get that flower piping down… I have watched videos and everything, and it just never looks right when I do it, but I think it is soooo beautiful on a cake and yours looks great!!
I can not for the life of me get that flower piping down..
Thank you for the kind words….you know what they say, practice makes perfect, and after many, many years of doing that swirl on the top of cupcakes for various school events, I figured I could apply it to a cake…..it’s the only design I can do

If I could only do one design (I can do none), I would choose this!!! I just like to come back and look at the cake!!
