I don’t try many recipes in the books I buy. I stick to a few tried and true. I am sure there are others which I haven’t gotten a chance to make yet
FG, I know you have your favourites from Flo Brakerís Baking for All Occasions, but I wonder if youíve tried the Any Day All-Occasion Snack Cake, a streusel topped coffee cake? I made it today for the first time and thought of you, not just because I bought the book because of your recommendation Ė very happy with it, by the way - but because itís an oil-based cake made with only 1 egg and buttermilk (I used low fat).
Itís not nearly as decadent as the Baked Sour Cream Coffee Cake (Iíve made that too, so I know) but was very good for the little effort that it took to make…..nice flavour, moist crumb, crunchy topping. Though I made the basic version, it looks versatile too; Flo suggests add-ins of fresh berries, apples, grated carrots….

I am so glad you reminded me about this cake. It has become my everyday cake for me to have. I still make Roses’ incredible butter cakes for my husband but I have been trying to lower my cholesterol all year.
I have some good news to share…January 2012 my cholesterol was 257 (LDL 157). I made significant changes on my own but in June I purchased a book called Cholesterol Down. I didn’t even read the book. I jumped to the section which outlines the changes to make. I just took a cholesterol test, December 2012. I am very proud of myself and happy to say my total cholesterol went from 257 to 191 (LDL 111). That is huge! Now that I know the increase was due to my diet, I am sticking with the changes I made. I want to thank you for all your help and suggestions
