Chocolate / lemon cake recipes for cupcakes

Hi,

I have a friend whose birthday is coming up soon. Instead of one big cake, I thought I would make a trio of cupcakes for her in white, chocolate, and lemon. For the white, I’ll use the White Velvet Cupcakes from RHC.

However, I wanted to get some opinions on which chocolate and lemon cake recipes work best when baked as cupcakes. What about adjustments to the baking powder?

When I make cupcakes I don’t change the baking powder, because I like a gently rounded top to them (increasing it makes them flat).

My favorite chocolate cupcake is either the choco fudge cake from TCB or the deep chocolate passion from RHC.  For lemon, I like the buttermilk country cake topped with lemon neoclassic buttercream.  That doesn’t have a lemon cake, if you want a lemon cake I love the lemon chiffon baked as cupcakes, but be aware that because it is a sponge cake the chiffon shrinks a bit and bakes up flat, rather than domed.  But it’s very yummy!
