Hello Everyone -
I haven’t been in our forum in a long time - i hope everyone is well and happily baking!
I know one of my weakness is flowers - so i watched a tutorial that someone recommended on Facebook in a group called “unruly bakers”.
The tutorial is from Edna De la Cruz…i like her method of building roses out of gumpaste.

When i tried the Wilton way it came out - well not looking like a rose….i tried and tried and it finally i got very discouraged until I tried Edna’s way!
Here is a photo of my first “real” looking rose….
I still need practice….but i am pleased.
One aspect i am still working on is the base of the rose - making more “round” and not bulky….practice practice…

Please send comments - good and bad - that is how we all learn from honest constructive criticism…..

By the way - are any of you on Unruly Bakers in Facebook?  It is by invitation only so if you are interested, message me personally…

I think that rose is very nice!  It does look like a natural rose.  Do you think the gumpaste is a little thick…could you do the same thing with thinner gumpaste?  I have to check out Edna’s rose tutorial….unruly bakers.

Keep up the good work.  Kuddos to you, also, for not giving up.

Practice makes perfect. There are so many ways to make a Rose. Try several methods and stick to the one your are comfortable with.. The thinner the edge, the prettier and more realistic it will look. Nicholas Lodge, Ron Ben Israel and Sylvia Weinstock makes the most beautiful roses and flowers on their cake. I personally do not gum paste, I use fondant. Also try looking into Paul Bradford, everything he makes is fabulous.

Also look into Christopher Garren, Let Them Eat Cake in Orange County, CA. His work is amazing.

Thanks Prettycake / CRenee - i did download Nicholas Lodge’s class from craftsy..it was hard for me to do - i find that attaching petal by by petal is best so far - but i am constantly open to new ideas and ways to make flowers…
The rose above is put togethere petal by petal - not using the 5 petal cutter….
thanks for all your support
