I always roast my yams when making pie.  IMHO, boiling makes them watery and drains away some of the potato flavor..I was up ‘til 1:00 am making this, but well worth it. decorated w/ cut put pie crust..

Very nice looking pie prettycake.  I have never had sweet potato pie before.  Is it similar to pumpkin pie, as far as taste goes?

It almost taste like pumpkin. Maybe 80% similar in taste. It has a certain taste that makes it different, and I cannot point it out. But it taste good either way. I eat both pumpkin and sweet potato.

Thank u Lisa.

Thanks Anne,

I only make this kind of pie at this time of the year.
I baked those cut outs separate so they won,t burn.

I love pumpkin pie, so I probably would like sweet potato pie.  Looks like it has very similar spices.

Maybe one of these days I will try a mini pie.

Yes, the cut out decorations on top are beautiful.  I like to bake those separately too.  What kind of pie dough do you use for your pies?

Sweet Potato Pie is a favorite among my family and friends…and I do not like pumpkin at all.  It really tastes like candied yams although the pie batter really is not as sweet.

Oh it looks so pretty!
I never had a sweet potato pie. It looks so custardy and smooth! And the leaves look very professional.

It is so pretty!

I recently read about roasting the yams instead of boiling for a much better flavor, so I roasted the potatoes for a casserole and it was very, very good and full of flavor.

I have made a butternut squash/sweet potato pie before and really loved it. Those flowers are just too cool and would love to try that. You say it is a shortbread type of crust?

Thank u McBrownie and Abbey..
This is one of those things that I would make again and again..not only that it is easy, but it also taste good. Maybe next time I will try pumpkin and sweet potato.. I made short bread cookies last week that I like it so much that I thought I,d use it for the crust.

Hi Prettycake,

Getting ready to bake the sweet potato pie and wondered if you could-please-coach me with the shortbread cookie dough.

I assume I would use unbaked dough for the pie dough?

I found a simple recipe-only 3 ingredients-for the Shortbread cookies.

Thank you!!

PS Since Shortbread is my all time favorite, I will bake a batch of cookies will I’m at it. wink

Hi abbey,
Yes, it is unbaked crust. This is very similar to pumpkin except that u use sweet potatoe.  If time is almost up and u can see that it needs more time to bake , cover it very loosely with foil and just keep testing. U can add like maybe 5-10 mins at a time until the middle is set but probably still a little wiggley. Good luck ☺ merry Christmas
