Does anyone have a fondant recipe that actually tastes good. I’ve never made my own fondant before but all of the ones i have tasted are awful. A friend of mine used the wilton pre-made fondant and the cake was great… after I peeled the fondant off. I’m making a baby shower cake for a friend and she’s wants fondant. I gave myself plenty of practice time to find a good recipe and try it out before the party(which is in april) So I’m not in a rush but this being my first fondant cake I figured the more practice time the better I would be. Wilton fondant ranks down there at the bottom of the barrel.  Rose’s fondant recipe, found in The Cake Bible, is excellent… tastes like the oreo filling of my childhood and melts on the tongue.  Only one change to report… since the book was published 20 years ago, Crisco has been reformulated and Rose’s recipe tester has reported that Spectrum Organic Shortening is an excellent substitute to use instead of the new Crisco formulation (non-trans fat).
