Cake Lattice

I’m new to baking, well decorating cakes. I came across a cake on this website actually, and I found a German Chocolate cake that I LOVE to make for my husband. But I don’t know how to make the side lattice.

I’ll attach the picture so no one is confused what I mean (and I’m not even sure if it’s called lattice….)

Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks!!!

I think that’s one of Matthew’s gorgeous cakes.  The side design is called “basket weave”.  You can google directions online.  I bet you can find youtube videos for it, or check out the Wilton website - they have a lot of decorating directions.

Hi Wicked,

  I don’t know if you found what you were looking for but here is a video from youtube that a cake decorator posted of herself doing a basket weave on a cake. This was how I learned. I always find it easier to watch someone else executing the technique rather than just reading about it. I hope this helps.
